Staying Free is a relapse prevention toolkit that you can carry around with you on your iPhone.
It is designed to be used alongside Breaking Free Online, the confidential treatment and recovery programme for problem alcohol and drug use that is accessed at www.breakingfreeonline.com.
Staying Free will let you keep track of how your recovery is going via weekly check-ins that give you instant feedback and advice:
• SUBSTANCE USE CHECK-IN – looks at whether you have drunk alcohol or used your main problem substance or managed to stay abstinent
• MOOD CHECK-IN – looks at how you have been feeling emotionally
Staying Free will also give you a set of four powerful tools to help you stay safe and avoid relapse:
• CYCLE OF DEPENDENCE – a reminder of the key issues that keep people locked in a cycle of dependence on alcohol or drugs, but which you can overcome by using Breaking Free Online
• MANAGE MY RISKY PLACES – a strategy that will guide you to recognise, avoid and cope with risky places or situations in which you could be tempted to drink or use drugs
• SEE MY MOTIVATION – a ‘digital flash card’ that will give you extra motivation to stay strong in your recovery at times when you are feeling vulnerable
• SURF MY CRAVINGS – a technique based on mindfulness that will help you ride out your cravings and urges for alcohol or drugs
IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE:
The Staying Free mobile app is for use only by people who have an account on Breaking Free Online, or who have received (from a licenced alcohol or drug service) an access code that allows them to set one up.
If you are already using Breaking Free Online, you will be able to access Staying Free as soon as you have downloaded it: simply log in with your existing username and password.
If you have not yet started on Breaking Free Online, use the access code you have been given by a service to create an account on either Staying Free or Breaking Free Online. Once you have done this, you will be able to access both by using your chosen username and password.
